Here is a set of 22 photos of Hong Kong-born Marc Alante’s artwork starting at the tender young age of 2 and ending at the age of 25. It’s amazing to watch Alante’s talent evolve through those 23 years. Not sure why, but there are no images for the ages of 12 and 21.   Click on any image to view in full size and toggle through the years. . . These Were Actually in School Textbooks | Photos

Here are some examples of some errors, oddities, and just plain wrong items that have been found in all different levels of school textbooks.  Although for the most part, they are all “facepalmers”.  Some, though, really do make me fear for the future of our children and our country. I wonder how many people this may have messed with. ~ This should have been left in the shape of a + sign, or the bars could have been created the other direction. ~ Dick Shaft? . I guess that means after having a couple drinks, More…

Westboro Baptist Church has a new neighbor. A Rainbow House!

This “in your face WBC” news is most warranted, and in the words of Bill and Ted, “most excellent.”   If you’re not familiar with the Westboro Baptist Church, two words sum them up. Hate mongers. Pure and simple. All they know is how to hate, and they do a lot of it. The WBC has found their way into the news and limelight by picketing at high profile events and funerals, such as Obama’s inauguration; the funeral of Matthew Shepard who had been robbed, brutally beaten and left to die in Laramie, Wyoming; threatened More…

2013 NCAA March Madness: The Year of the Upsets

I’m sure I’m not the only one hanging my head in sorrow over my dismal brackets. Who woulda thought. Oh, sure, in nearly every tournament there is usually a major upset and it’s a gamble on picking who it is going to be. I don’t know if there is even a definition for a “major” upset, but I consider it to be any top 5-seeded team to lose in the 1st Round. Therefore, these seeds:   1 versus 16 2 versus 15 3 versus 14 4 versus 13 5 versus 12 From that point in, More…

2013 March Madness: A slice of Cinderella pie

Since I am on my computer most of the day, I watch the games via live stream. This year I noticed a button in the top right called “Boss Button.” Okay, I’m game (pardon the pun), so I give it a click – and I’m glad I did.   The first thing that pops up is this graphic: I always enter three brackets on the CBS Fantasy site. I love it as it does all the work for me once the games start. Easy to read, etc. And I can also look back to see More…

Woman Sets Snake on Fire. Snake Sets House on Fire.

Ayup. That’s pretty much how it went. A homeowner in Liberty Eylau in Texas was outside cleaning up her yard when she saw a snake. Apparently she is not fond of these mice-catching creatures, so decided to throw gasoline on the snake and set it on fire. Well, the snake wasn’t just going to roll over and die that easily, so it slithered into the dry brush which caught fire – then the brush caught the house on fire.   The home is a complete loss. This homeowner is in contention for the upcoming “2013 More…

Google Nose (BETA) Stinks. But it got me!

Actually, it doesn’t stink. That just seemed like a good title. Well, Happy April Fool’s Day everyone. Did you “get got” today? I did but in the wee hours in the morning while most people had not yet started their April Fool’s Day – and I was still in March 31st mode.   I spent a marathon-weekend watching every single episode of Game of Thrones, as HBO was showing them all at no charge in preparation of the start of the third season last night. I had not seen any of them and decided to More…

Girl Weeps Over Dead and Murdered Wisdom Teeth

This has to be one of the funniest “f’ed up on pain med’s” videos I have ever seen. It was just featured on Jimmy Kimmel, otherwise I never would have seen it. Abbie Kritz, from Oklahoma, just had her wisdom teeth removed. She apparently is not very familiar with the effects of pain medicine or sedation as it really affects her. My wisdom teeth extraction was nothing near as funny as this. Abbie’s boyfriend recorded her on the way home weeping and crying over her “dead” wisdom teeth. A few wails include: “They just wanted More…

What happens when you wring a washcloth in space? It may not be what you think.

Watching what life is like in zero-gravity in the International Space Station has always fascinated me as it does most people. I’ve seen liquids float around in little balls, the astronauts eat food floating in the air, and several other interesting things. So when I started to watch this video, I thought I knew what would happen, but figured it would be cool to watch just the same. Boy, was I surprised. It didn’t do anything like what I thought would happen.  Wet Washcloth In Space – What Happens When You Wring It? | Video More…

World’s Largest Rubber Duck Bobs Along in Hong Kong

These photos make me grin from ear to ear. Conceptual artist Florentijin Hofman brought his gargantuan Rubber Duck artwork to Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong. The huge inflatable duck measures nearly 46 feet tall and 55 feet long and is shown above being pulled by a tug boat only a fraction of its size. Hofman is well known for his grandiose and whimsical sculptures that seem born with the primary goal of inducing as many smiles possible. Via the artist’s website:  The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a More…

Awesome Video Features Stop-Start Motion Made with ATOMS! “A Boy and His Atom”

Yes, atoms. What you see in the video is 100 million times bigger than actual size. The actual device used in the lab that handles and moves the atoms is at -268° Centigrade (-450° Fahrenheit), which helps keep the atoms from moving around. FYI… 0° Kelvin, which is “Absolute Zero” – the point where everything, including molecular levels, freezes – is -273.15°C and -450.67°F. So they are very nearly at Absolute Zero. Remember, normally atoms they’re busy little buggers – always in motion.  Guinness has certified that this is the world’s smallest stop-motion film. Like More…

I captured a Hummingbird-Moth… with my camera

I had no idea there was such a creature. I stepped outside earlier this morning to take a break from the computer and noticed what was not unlike a hummingbird flitting around from flower to flower. But it’s speed just wasn’t quite fast enough. Oh, this creature could move much better than most insects, but just didn’t have that “zip-zip” of a hummingbird. Plus, it allowed me to get much closer than birds do – and that’s when I noticed the antennae. I definitely knew then that it wasn’t a hummingbird. I wanted some photos More…

Bowie’s “Space Oddity” as Sung from Space in the ISS

I have watched this over and over and over now. I love Bowie, especially this song, to being with. Then the slight edits to the song and adding in space – real space as the International Space Station orbits the earth – and you have one helluva remake of “Space Oddity.”  This video completely sang by Col. Chris Hadfield while in orbit was uploaded May 12 and has well over 6 million hits so far. If you didn’t know, when a video goes viral, it takes days for the hits to actually catch up. So More…

The Never-ending Escherian Stairwell – Go right back to where you started from

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has an incredible set of stairs which were designed by a Filipino architect Rafael Nelson Aboganda ala Escher-style. An architectural marvel that seems to violate the laws of physics and basic logic by looping back into itself. An optical illusion you may actually participate in.  Just check it out…. Oh, FYI… the first few minutes are [yawn] boring. Skip ahead to 1:35 to see the wonder of these stairs. Imagine RIT 2013 (feat.
